Scatterbox announces the remixed and remastered re-release of the album ‘Enemies’ for September.
Completely remixed and remastered from the original master tapes, the album by the Idaho (USA) hardcore punk band Scatterbox will receive its first-ever vinyl release—alongside digital formats—on September 9 via Blackhouse Records Inc.
Scatterbox’s lineup features Tom White (vocals), Mark Cogburn (guitar), Ryan White (bass), Scott Rozell (drums), and Sean Nicol (guitar). The members have also played in bands such as Moral Crux, Green Jellÿ, Intifada, and Sterileprayer. Throughout their journey, the group has remained rooted in the uncompromising essence of hardcore punk, channeling the reckless speed of the genre’s formative years without sounding merely nostalgic.
Recommended for fans of Adolescents, Born Against, and Pennywise, the album Enemies was originally intended to be the band’s fourth studio record. Recorded at The Tank Studios in Seattle with producer Tom Pfaeffle (who had previously worked with diverse acts like Queensrÿche, Jewel, and The Blood Brothers), the project boasted the largest budget of the group’s career.
However, the album’s history was marred by tragedy: before the final vocal sessions could take place, Pfaeffle was tragically killed in Seattle. The album was eventually completed under difficult circumstances, and due to subsequent label changes, it lacked promotional support and quickly faded from circulation.
Nearly two decades later, the band finally regained possession of the original master tapes. They enlisted sound and film engineer Kaleb Wrenchey (Rings of Saturn, Fetish) to reconstruct, remix, and remaster the work from scratch. The result is the definitive version Scatterbox had always envisioned. The 2026 edition also marks the album’s first-ever pressing on limited-edition red vinyl.
Lyrically, Enemies reflects both personal struggles and the turbulent political climate of the era in which it was written—the Bush administration and the U.S. housing crisis. “That idiot gave us plenty to write about,” sums up vocalist Tom White.
